President’s Welcome

Miranda L. Hurley, M.Ed. R.T.(R)

It is with great honor and enthusiasm that I serve as the WSRT President for the 2024-2025 term. I have been a part of the WSRT, either as a board member or webmaster, for almost seven years. I look forward to this next year as president and hope to serve the members of the WSRT well.

The WSRT held a very successful 91st Annual Conference in conjunction with the WAERT (Wisconsin Association of Educators in Radiologic Technology) Student Symposium. This event was held at the Kalahari Resort in Wisconsin Dells from April 1-3, 2024. Over three days we welcomed over 300 technologists, students, and educators spanning across Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, and Illinois. Additionally, we hosted over two dozen vendors, had nearly 20 speakers, and gave away $1,200 in scholarships to students. Please support our efforts to continue to provide educational opportunities by attending next year’s event scheduled for April 21–23, 2025.

I look forward to continuing working with the WSRT Board of Directors. I would like to welcome new board members: Treasurer – Misty Susa and Member at Large – Courtney Fields and Kyle Wanie. I want to thank outgoing board members Dan Vander Muelen and Ali Liezert-Dale for their hard work and dedication to the WSRT. Your contributions to our society do not go unnoticed and we will greatly miss you as a board member, but look forward to working with you as an active member.

In closing, I want to remind everyone that the success of the WSRT relies heavily on an engaged membership. Our profession and patients are reliant on highly educated and trained medical imaging professionals. There are actions being taken across the country to minimize our role in healthcare. These proposed bills would allow individuals, such as medical assistants, to perform the duties of a medical imaging professional without any credentialing or proper training. As the third largest group of medical professionals, we must continue to speak up for our profession and the value we bring to the healthcare system. I fear that silence will only put our families, friends, and communities at risk. I challenge you to get involved at your workplace or with the WSRT. It is our time to “Be Seen.”
